A historic district of Rochester, New York, High Falls is in dire need of revelopment as its main industries have vacated and left the site void of population and activity. What's known as Creative Destruction, by Social-Ecological terms, the site has the greatest opportunity to redevelop a new system of society and ecology.
My ultimate vision for Rochester’s High Falls District is for it to be a model area of new urbanism in which multi-use development, natural ecologies, historical identification, networked public space, and social stimulation are present in a collaborative social and ecological system. In order for this goal to be considered feasible, there are a series of phases in which both social aspects and environmental aspects of the site are addressed through both small and large scale interventions. This concept was developed through the analysis of the site’s constraints and opportunities of population activity, and Rochester’s planning goals for its future.
